| Other comments: |
Benzyl benzoate is a component
of cinnamon oil and Peru and Tolu balsams. It was first selected as an insect
repellent by the US Army in 1945. It replaced the less successful dimethyl
phthalate in part because it could survive laundering after uniforms had
been impregnated with it. It is probably no longer available (or certified
in the United States for use) as an insect repellent. However, it has a
number of uses in the food and chemical industries and may be available
in quantity if needed. |
