Available forms Oral tablets, injection, eye (ophthalmic solutions) and ear drops (otic solution)
Indications and usage Recommended for use against against a wide variety of infections when susceptibility is demonstrated. May be safe for use for patients taking theophylline, warfarin, or cyclosporin. Drug interactions Antacids containing divalent cations inhibit efficient absorption of Ofloxacin.
Adverse reactions and side effects

NOTE: all such reactions are rare.

Animal experiments indicate that Ofloxacin may interfere with bone or cartilage in very young animals. In adults, nausea, diarrhea, headache and constipation are the commonest side effects. Anaphylaxis is a risk.

Mode of action Ofloxacin inhibits an enzyme called DNA gyrase that is an essential component of the mechanism that passes genetic information onto daughter cells when a cell divides.
